Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Tile Installer to join Wood Contracting's team specializing in residential kitchen and bathroom remodeling throughout Chicago. This position focuses on high-quality tile installation for floors, showers, backsplashes, and other surfaces in condos, townhomes, and single-family homes. You will work on projects where precision layout and expert installation are essential to achieving beautiful, lasting results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install tile for kitchen backsplashes, bathroom floors, shower surrounds, and other applications.
- Prepare surfaces including waterproofing, substrate installation, and underlayment as needed.
- Execute precise layouts to ensure proper alignment, pattern consistency, and minimal cuts.
- Cut and fit tiles around fixtures, outlets, and irregular spaces with precision.
- Install custom shower systems including pan preparation, wall tile, and glass enclosures.
- Apply grout and sealants professionally with attention to cleanliness and finish quality.
- Work with various tile materials including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and glass.
- Coordinate with plumbers and carpenters to ensure proper sequencing of work.
- Maintain clean work areas and protect surrounding surfaces during installation.
- Ensure all installations meet quality standards and Chicago building code requirements.
Requirements:
- 3-7 years of professional tile installation experience in residential settings.
- Expert knowledge of tile layout techniques, pattern design, and installation methods.
- Experience with waterproofing systems and shower pan installation.
- Proficiency with tile saws, wet saws, and precision cutting tools.
- Strong understanding of substrate preparation and proper installation techniques.
- Ability to work with large format tiles, mosaics, and specialty materials.
- Excellent attention to detail for grout line consistency and finished appearance.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license for Chicago job sites.
- Physical ability to perform demanding work including kneeling and lifting materials.
- Professional attitude when working in occupied residential properties.
